    Found Objects Around Town

    ByElizabeth November 3, 2012November 3, 2012

Society generally requires one to strive for and conform to certain conventions and expectations to be recognized and rewarded by it. To connect with the magical, fortunately, does not require any particular possessions.

    Cate Stillman’s Quick Recovery Guide

    ByElizabeth November 2, 2012

Thanks to Cate Stillman for sharing these quick and easy tips for comforting, grounding, and realigning after sustaining trauma.  Actually, I’m all for warm, tasty, moist one-pot meals and walking throughout the cool and cold season.  Most of these tips would be of service for healthy and happy day to day living regardless–just add some fresh things from the garden or the farmer’s market and double or triple the walking time.

    Signs Around Town

    ByElizabeth November 1, 2012November 1, 2012

A friend emailed me today that her children will be home for rest of the week because their schools lost power from Sandy, and that she is counting her blessings because she and her family came through fine. My parents, who lost trees, including one that went through the roof of their house, are counting themselves well off because they witnessed how bad it could have been. In contrast, some others I know who didn’t experience any real inconvenience to themselves personally though in danger range have said they thought the storm had been “over-hyped.” (I know, being exposed to silly statements such as the latter is a peril of social media).

Do we need to know hardship ourselves, at least a little, in order to have true sensitivity and compassion? Possibly.

To all my friends and family challenged in the wake of Sandy or going through another challenge or hardship, please know that you are in my thoughts.

Yes, There Will Be Class Tonight at William Penn House

    ByElizabeth October 30, 2012

For those students who live within a few blocks, have power, and are not needed for such emergency assistance that can be provided before the trains are running and the roads reopened, what better than to come out and practice yoga as usual?  (Or if the storm has made it impossible to get out, it’s a great time for your home practice).

The yoga practices are such a healthy way to channel the energy from having been cooped up by the storm and to revive and enhance one’s flexibility, adaptability, balance, and strength.  It has been my experience that steady practice invites us to be ever more capable to address what confronts and engages us on our path (whether we like it or not).  Sending loving energy to all who have been challenged hard by Sandy’s path or otherwise.

Sidewalk Art Around Town (and Don’t Forget to Vote)

    ByElizabeth October 27, 2012October 27, 2012

It seems timely for a new category to emerge (they manifest more than I create them intentionally) just as things are about to be soaked and spun about and tossed around. Be safe wherever you are and don’t forget to vote.
