Aerial View
If I had been born a different person and chosen an entirely different career path (say a secret service agent), I might have had a view like this today. Would it have been worth it? So interesting to watch the dance of intention and fate. This, by the way, is the view from the cafeteria at the Department of Labor, so I can have it any other day. If you look closely, you can see where the podium was set up in front of the capitol. The pictures in the next post are mostly from the park just north of the capitol — so they would be just outside of this shot on the left.

State of the Garden
Mildly disappointed that there wasn’t really any snow, but happy there also wasn’t any ice that stuck.

Art Around Town
I happened upon these tigers when I was out walking. I refrain from photos of the buds that are about to bust open despite the sudden freeze.

Signs Around Town (and More Thoughts on the Dangers of Yoga)
These stickers have been around town for awhile; I first noticed them during one of the big marches. I assume that it is meant to be ironic. The idea of fighting for non-violence, though, certainly highlights the degeneration of much of our political dialogue into an us versus them fighting stance, even for those seeking peace or social justice.
The truth of the matter is that just as we cannot realize inner peace by forcing our mind to be quiet, and we put ourselves at risk in our asana practice if we force ourselves into poses to realize external notions of advancement that mirror our conventional cultural values, so too, we will not open the way to peace if we fight for it using the paradigms of the two-party system that now serves the military-industrial complex instead of expanding recognition of the needs of all to be connected and nurtured.

State of the Garden
I spent most of the day working in the garden. As the darkness of the eclipse encroached, I thought what it would be like if I had not known in advance that it was coming.
Would I have known enough to heed the crows?
I sat with Ganesha, in the aspect of the one who can reveal to practitioners a skillful path amidst the obstacles that necessarily arise from the churning of space and time by the 12 Kalis and which are intrinsic to the fabric of the tandava generated by Siva Nataraja.
