State of the Garden (and Still More Snow)
Today’s snow was a soft and beautiful one. Mostly, though, people were complaining that it was still snowy and cold.
With camera in hand this morning, I thought that to have more when we have already had too much makes it hard to appreciate the intrinsic good of a thing. I enjoyed this snow as a reminder of how moderation can enhance pleasure.
I then surrendered to the fact of the snow and to its beauty, letting go of my preference for spring mildness.
When All Else Fails
When I find it hard to muster sufficient humor about the state of things, there’s always a silly cat picture.

When the news is mostly
Bad, and the ground has been
Parched into dust, and tree
Leaves are withered brown with-
Out the solemn beauty
Of Autumn flame. When the
Cycle of dissolution
Doesn’t take the course
Seeming most benevolent.
When it’s been like that:
Cool rain good.
