Be Here Now (var.)

“I realize that often I don’t listen,” said one young woman to her friend. “So I started winding a pipe cleaner around my finger.”
“A pipe cleaner?!” responded her friend.
“Yes. A pipe cleaner. When I realize I’m not paying attention I touch it, and that helps me listen.”
To myself, I thought, “well, if it works for her, although perhaps at some point she can just notice and would no longer need the pipe cleaner.”
And then the next morning, among the things I saw discarded on my walk–a rather fancy pipe cleaner.

I’ve never really been quite sure what this is supposed to mean, how to do it, or for what purpose.
Among other things, as a practitioner of moderation, it does not seem good to have a goal of getting higher and higher or to vibrate faster and faster.

Sometimes I contemplate the many names of yoga poses that are for animals and how and when that influences my asana practice.

I did not know the cyclist, but know people who did. If you’re walking or on a bicycle or skateboard or wheelchair please be wary and be aware. Car drivers please watch out for pedestrians and cyclists, etc.
