Revolution?

There was one week with highs below freezing and nights in the teens fahrenheit, but other than that this winter in my garden has been perfect weather for greens and root vegetables.
Tyrone came for a quarterly check for various vermin (yes, I know that rats and termites are no less divine than anything else, but it’s much easier to think that of them when they are not in your dwelling place). I followed him out into the garden. He said that last time I gave him some carrots that he ate in the truck.
I found a couple of good carrots and enough turnips and kale for both of us. It is time to eat up the vegetables that wintered over to make way for new planting.

Garden greens with baby carrots and sprouted beluga lentils, with Dijon mustard vinaigrette; spring onion and quinoa torte with eggs from my friend’s hens. Black olives, roasted soy nuts for salad as diners choose, tarragon and mint to refresh palate. Cool herbal infusion (peppermint, spearmint, anise hyssop, and lemon balm). Wine and dessert not shown.
After practicing for a long time, it can be hard to remember the enthusiasm of new beginnings. Sometimes taking a break is good. And rereading. And studying with those who are bringing the insights from those who have come to teach with the perspective of the generation after me.
I was meeting a friend near Dupont for dinner. It was positively balmy, and I caught the space between showers, so I walked the 25 blocks from the office. It is rather wonderful, to be able to stroll past the White House when I am out for a walk between work and dinner.
Even as fearful a nation as we have become, much is still accessible for all to see. I think preserving access is tremendously important. On the way home, I walked past “Occupy DC” before catching the bus to witness those sacrificing comfort to maintain such access and all it is meant to represent.
Then I did my evening meditation on the bus.

On this Boxing Day, day after another Christmas with no tree on which to perch, the Christmas tree top angel, looking more like a fairy godmother, found a dance with Shiva Nataraja and his cohort.
