Flying Carpet Yoga
I have been talking idly with the family at Woven History about having a yoga benefit for members of either local community or where Woven History trades who are in need. On a winter evening after closing hours, using the cushions and carpets for props. Here’s one pose I have in mind. You can also do this with bed pillows in a hotel or guest bedroom.

Why Did It Make Me Feel Better? (and Pictures from the Middle of the Night with Irene)
Why did it make me feel better to think it could have been worse? Hurricane Irene revealed a place that probably would not have leaked (into the living room) if mortar had not been shaken loose by the earthquake earlier this week. As I was doing another check early this morning of the house and perimeter to see if I needed to do anything to prevent worse damage from late discovery, I thought that it probably would have been a lot worse for the earthquake to have revealed stresses from the hurricane than having had them do the reverse. I guess it would depend on how the two impacted something to know which sequence would have been easier to weather.
I am appreciating my good fortune in having seen the wind and the rain and come out having no tangible material impact other than memories and relatively minor repairs that need to be done in a hurry. Holding all in the path in the light.
Found Exhortation and Affirmation
At lunchtime, I walked out to go to the bank and to pick up some pre-ordered kitchen supplies. Every time I go out, things have changed.

New Toy (and Samskaras)
The guy in the Apple store in Georgetown who showed me why I really wanted to walk out of the store with the IPad 2 had never heard the song “New Toy.” The year it came out, I was in London studying and being tragically hip; he was a year old give or take a few months. I suggested he find it on ITunes.
Three days of Ipad 2 ownership later, “New Toy” kept running through my head. Oh my god, and then I started hearing Nina Hagen infiltrating from the past. Was I really in New York when this song came out and kind of out of my mind? Yes I was. Does anything we experience ever completely fade away? Probably not, which is why the great yoga masters advise us to be careful what we bring into our consciousness, lest we establish new samskaras that draw us away from the light.
