OK—Two Views
I am ok and grateful for my well-being. I am also, among other things, grieving the death of two different friends in the last month and the remaining dregs of democracy. I could be more ok than the ok that I am. Some people aren’t ok at all. How are you?

Metro tracks over Benning Road bridge, “OK” graffiti, and a glimpse of the river. Global Mala Day Today
I was not able to go to the Washington, DC event for Global Mala Day because I am scheduled to do my regular volunteer work. I did, however, include the focus of this call for a unified, intentional offering in my morning meditation and asana practice.
Do join in, remembering to celebrate yourself as part of the community however and whatever your offering. Be mindful of your body and energy as you choose a practice to be sure that the repetition of 108 will serve rather than deplete.
A Satisfying Morning
This morning I again joined “Living Classrooms DC,” which I found through the “Sustainable DC” volunteer website, removing invasive shrub honeysuckle. It is only one of the invasive species threatening the balance of health on the islands. Just because a nursery sells an invasive (for example English ivy) and you see it around, does not mean it is healthy to plant. Please check and do not plant any invasives.

As I Read This Poem
This morning, as I read this poem by Janet Hoffman, which is collected in Plain Living–A Quaker Path to Simplicity by Catherine Whitmire, I thought of friends and family and students and colleagues who are living with loss and illness and other struggles.
I wish sometimes that I could heal or make happy everyone I know. Knowing that is not possible or even right, I wish for myself and those in need to know strength and courage and joy even when faced with causes for deep suffering.
