Sometimes it is good to remind ourselves not to take things too seriously.

There used to be more trees at the plaza in front of Eastern Market. When a couple died in the drought, instead of replanting, they removed the old tree and bricked in the space. Now there’s a puddle that evaporates instead of going into the ground and nourishing a tree in the city. Sure is a pretty puddle though.
Do you have any paved spaces under your control that could be transformed from a place of run-off into a space for plant life?

If we are the first two, more of us will experience the last.
If we just mouth words or put them on our walls, then they are little more than the happy platitudes all too prevalent in marketing yoga and just about everything else.
But if we use such words as reminders to grow and engage, then they are very much more.
These orchids were left out with the trash in the neighborhood yesterday. Though my bags were full from a walk to the farmers market, I did not want to leave them to perish when they could yet offer more beauty.
Despite what looked like months of neglect–the plants evidently owned only for their blooming time and not their full growing cycle–there was optimistic new growth.
Time will tell whether they will rebloom. For now, they look pretty happy to have a new home.
