When I was out gathering vegetables and herbs and doing basic tending for the day, I realized a cardinal, who is a regular visitor, had let me get closer than ever before. Then I saw that he was about to try and swallow a praying mantis. I got almost face to face before he let go.
At first the praying mantis was turned upside down, and I wasn’t sure if it was ok. Then I realized it was holding on to a bee.
Please Take Care of Your Trees
It continues to be drier than normal and hotter than average, even with the few below normal days and the intermittent violent thunderstorm.
A good, deep watering once a week is better than more frequent shallow waterings for trees during a dry spell or drought.
If your neighbor refuses to take responsible care, take care of the trees adjacent to your own. Well-tended trees make great neighbors in the city.

A Skink
It has been a special day. I met a skink when we were weeding at the Youth Garden. First time I have encountered one.
I am grateful for a life that is healthy and safe enough for such things. Wishing health and safety for all and giving of time and energy (though I am sure it ought to be more) beyond the prayers to help it manifest.
State of the Garden
I spent a couple of hours in the garden before having the honor and pleasure of going to a party to celebrate the wedding of one of the yoga practice group. It was a delightful day. I am grateful.
