Signs Around Town

Remember when these would have been costly and exciting toys–the latest technology–that would have been protected from theft and breakage. Now they are just a pile of partly toxic garbage, replaced by the newest exciting and expensive gadget. I do not claim to be free from the allure of technology and its toys (blogging as I am by Blackberry with built-in camera), but this stack of dusty now junk one can only hope will be at least partly recycled is an excellent reminder of what is important and the fleetingness of gratified desire.

The dance of yoga is about motion in stillness and stillness in motion, and in not letting oneself be frozen. Stillness is the space between vibrations, instead of the shutting down or closing off vibration. To experience the space between the vibrations (spanda) when changing shapes (poses; going from one thing to the next), one must emerge into the shape and disssolve out of it, with the expanding delight of the coming and going more important than achieving some precise, required shape to demonstrate self-control and mastery (not unlike the teaching in the Siva Sutra that knowledge both binds and liberates).
After over a decade of using “rose garden yoga,” I have designed and had printed (on 100% recycled card stock of course) cards for my yoga offering.
By the way, the position of the fingers might look like a peace sign (and it is), but with the fingers pointed down, into the earth, the fingers are in bhu mudra–signifying both the earth element and the earth it/her/theyself.
