Because the Senate, like any group sharing an office building, would need a little love if the fire department is wanted.
Come to think of it, the Senate needs a little love all the time; I like this heart being here to call in loving energy. Those who are working to care for those most challenged in our society, to protect the environment, and to seek fairness and justice for all need support to keep serving. And with an influx of love, perhaps those digging their heels in for greed, power, corruption, and violence, might be influenced to make a shift.

Ghee
Just as I by complete coincidence was making ghee, the mail carrier misdelivered my neighbor’s Time magazine.
The debates will no doubt continue. We hunger for simplistic rules that apply equally to all. So much easier than conscious and responsible moderation.

Fences, Freedom, and Viveka
Refining how and to what we say “yes” and “no” in the world is one of the purposes of the yoga practices. The dedicated yogin seeks ever-growing discernment (viveka) of his or her own limits for the purpose of living ever more expansively and in fact more freely than is possible for those who fight against or ignore limits.
If we stick up or hold onto fences and defenses where they are not needed, we miss the opportunity to connect. Conversely, if we fail to honor the extraordinary combination of limits that makes us our exquisitely individual self and shapes our embodied connection to the world around us, we will be less free in ourselves and in the world and with each other, which leads to suffering.
