On the Walk Home from Work

First I spent a couple of hours in the garden, then I walked to the grocery store and the pet supply shop. The next walk was a loop first to the hardware store and then to the farmers’ market for fruit and eggs.
The last walks were round trip to the Sunday contact improv jam. I mostly did asana in the corner, which is not really dancing, but nobody seemed to mind.
On the way home I extended the walk to do one last errand. The weather was perfect. Gardens everywhere bright and lush from the unusual rain.

There may be messages and meanings all around us that we might take as signs. That is all well and good as long as we respond to signs with discrimination (viveka) and do not use signs, be they in the stars or elsewhere, as excuses to abdicate responsibility for our choices.

This is a quote on the wall at the Lewis Baltz exhibit at the National Gallery (closing July 31st).
Where I travel, the landscape is often bustling or crowded or fine or grand–though much is spare like Judd’s. Some to love and some not so much. The relationships are perhaps both deep and complex at the level of mind and emotion. At the level of inner wisdom, illuminated by the light of consciousness (when I can maintain it with respect to those things external), though, it is exquisitely simple.

I hear a lot that there’s always a rainbow after the storm. That platitude is looking for and being open to joy and not toxic positivity unless we recognize some people do not survive the storm and some people are not situated to see the rainbow through no fault of their own.
