On the Walk from Volunteer Work at the Lantern Bookshop

Saw this as an email signature from an email on a list serve I follow and had to share:
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.”
–Ralph Waldo Emerson
Those of you who talk to me more regularly have heard me mention that I’ve been taking a modest on-line course in non-violent communication. The course basically offers mindfulness and communication skills for more compassionate communication with oneself and others. Though much I’d heard before, I found the course well constructed and accessible. I found the weekly emails, even when I did not feel moved to complete the suggested exercises in writing for myself, served as a regular call for mindful speaking and reacting at a time in my work life (and in my life as an engaged citizen) when I can use all the reminders I can get.
I’m repeating the course, which starts in June 2015. For those of you who may be interested, here’s the link: http://compassioncourse.org/
