This orchid was on the half price shelf last year because it was almost past blooming. But patience, light, water, and a little food brought it to another new flourishing these many months later.

It is wonderfully healthy to grow some of our own food, and taking care of ourselves with diet today became that much more important. But we still all need access to medical care too. Please, if you have one, pick up the phone and call your senators to defend the Affordable Care Act and move towards a single payor system that would cover more people not fewer and would respect the rights and health needs of women.

We didn’t get snow except for mixed with rain and not enough of that. Some of the magnolias have already browned. I think about the farmers and the fruit trees; have they been patient enough to still be able to fruit, with this return to winter after the long, false spring?
